The kill switch is a critical privacy feature that blocks all internet traffic if the VPN connection drops unexpectedly — preventing your real IP address from being exposed.

The kill switch is enabled by default on all PrivateByRight VPN installations. We strongly recommend keeping it on.

How to Check and Configure the Kill Switch

  1. Open the PrivateByRight VPN app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Kill Switch.

Kill Switch Modes

System-Level Kill Switch (Recommended)

Blocks all internet traffic on your device if the VPN disconnects. This is the most comprehensive protection and is the default setting.

App-Level Kill Switch

Blocks internet access only for specific apps you choose. Other apps continue to use your normal connection. Use this if you need certain apps (e.g., a local network printer utility) to work without the VPN.

For maximum privacy protection, keep the kill switch set to system-level.
