PrivateByRight VPN supports multiple protocols. You can switch between them in the app settings.
How to Change Protocol
- Open the PrivateByRight VPN app.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Protocol.
- Choose your preferred protocol.
Available Protocols
WireGuard (Recommended)
WireGuard is the default protocol. It is faster, uses less battery, and uses modern cryptography (ChaCha20, Poly1305, Curve25519). It is the best choice for most users in most situations.
OpenVPN
OpenVPN is more widely compatible and can work on networks that block WireGuard. It supports both UDP (faster) and TCP (more reliable on restrictive networks) modes. Use OpenVPN if you're on a corporate network, hotel Wi-Fi, or any network that appears to block your VPN connection.
IKEv2 (Premium only)
IKEv2 is particularly well-suited for mobile devices as it reconnects quickly after network changes (e.g., switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data). Available on Premium plans.
If you're unsure which to use, leave it on WireGuard. Switch to OpenVPN only if you experience connection issues.
